Bao Bites featuring Kumusha Wines
Join Baobab Lounge for a Bao Bites reception featuring Tinashe, winemaker of Kumusha Wines on Saturday, April 22nd from 3pm - 5pm. Bao Bites is an upscale food and wine pairing reception at Baobab Lounge, an immersive African lounge at Plant Riverside District. This event will feature small plates of authentic African cuisine prepared by the award-winning culinary team at Plant Riverside District as well as acclaimed Kumusha Wines.
World-renowned sommelier Tinashe Nyamudoka, the founder of Kumusha Wines, will be in attendance and will share his tasting notes and insight into the winemaking process behind four signature wines. In the Shona language of Zimbabwe, “Kumusha” translates to “your home,” “your roots” or “your origin,” all of which Nyamudoka used as inspiration for Kumusha wines. Born in Harare, Zimbabwe, Tinashe worked his way up to the position of manager at a grocery store when Zimbabwe fell into economic crisis. After moving to Cape Town in South Africa, he found work polishing cutlery at the fine dining restaurant, The Roundhouse. After being promoted to waiter and without any prior experience of wine, Tinashe learned from the beverage director, eventually landing a job as wine steward at Nobu - an establishment of the One & Only group. In 2013 he wins the Reaching for the Young Stars Best Wine Steward Award. He then works at the Oyster Box hotel in Durban, before returning to Cape Town to become the head sommelier at The Test Kitchen.
Bao Bites will feature delicious small plate samplings of African cuisine with wine pairings. Menu highlights include African Deviled Eggs with Za’atar Mousse, Suya Chicken with Peanut Sauce and Bacon Jam, Braised Beef Curry with Lentils and Lamb Kabob with Naan Bread.
