Plant Riverside District and Jack Daniel Distillery are joining forces to bring a special family-friendly holiday attraction back to the Savannah Christmas Market for the second consecutive year while supporting active-duty members of the U.S. military. An 18-foot Jack Daniel’s barrel tree comprised of the distillery’s signature, handcrafted white oak barrels will come to life with twinkling lights at a special Lighting Ceremony at Plant Riverside District, located along Savannah’s historic riverfront at 400 W. River St., on Friday, November 24, 2023, at 7:30 p.m.
50 barrels will be auctioned and available for purchase, with 100% of the proceeds going to support the Jack Daniel’s Operation Ride Home Program. This special program, which is made possible through a partnership with the Armed Services YMCA, helps junior-enlisted service members enjoy the ultimate Christmas gift of going home for the holidays. The cost is $150 per barrel, with all barrels available for pick-up at Plant Riverside District on Friday, January 5, 2024.
The Jack Daniel’s Barrel Tree is a tradition that started in 2011 at the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, Tenn. Constructed from 50 barrels that were previously charred and used in the production of Jack Daniel’s iconic Tennessee Whiskey, the Barrel Tree at Plant Riverside District is one of only 12 in the United States. In addition to the flagship tree in Lynchburg, Tenn., Jack Daniel’s Barrel Trees are also located in Detroit, Milwaukee, Nashville, New York, San Antonio, San Jose, Tampa and Washington, D.C. Since 2011, Operation Ride Home has helped more than 13,000 service members and their families travel from military bases to homes across the country. Men and women from every military branch – including the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard – have been assisted with travel to all 50 states through the Operation Ride Home program.
